The full story

Ohr Shalom came to me for a fundraising video and I made a short film instead. It is a scripted narrative about a teenager who stops being the kid who needs someone and becomes the one who shows up for somebody else, and it played to a room that had come expecting a donor appeal.

Casting a story like that inside a school means working with people who are not actors, on a schedule built around a school day, and getting a performance anyway. That is the part that decides whether a film like this lands or just fills five minutes before the ask.

Ohr Shalom works with teenage boys who are not making it in the traditional religious school system: boys questioning their identity, boys rebelling against how they were raised, boys who have simply stopped responding to being told. The standard fundraising film explains what an organisation does. It rarely makes anyone care. That gap is the reason this one is a narrative rather than a set of interviews.
