In 2020, I had the unique opportunity to film with tennis legend Venus Williams at her home in Jupiter. The project unfolded as a day filled with a rich variety of activities, capturing the essence of Venus beyond the tennis court.
The filming encompassed a range of candid moments, including scenes of Venus cooking, gardening, and enjoying playful interactions with her dog. The day was further enriched by the presence of her friend and mother, adding to the relaxed and jovial atmosphere of the shoot.

The full story
This one did not come through an agency or a referral list. A video I made for a school’s Grandparents Day found its way to Venus Williams, and a few weeks later I was filming at her house in Jupiter: the court, the kitchen, and a dog named Harry.
Shooting in somebody’s home is a different job from shooting on a set. There is no lighting plan that survives contact with a real house, and the person in front of you is not there to perform. You work fast, you stay out of the way, and you take the room as you find it.
The call came in 2020, from a manager on her team. She had come across one of my videos and wanted something with the same feeling. My first question was the obvious one: which video? It was Shabbos Ima, a short film made for a school’s Grandparents Day. Of everything I had put out, that was the one that travelled, from a school hall to one of the greatest tennis players who has ever lived.
The final video showcases a diverse and intimate glimpse into Venus Williams’s life, highlighting her graciousness and down-to-earth nature. The warm and friendly environment of the shoot reflects Venus’s genuine personality, offering viewers an engaging and personal look at the tennis icon’s everyday life.
