Town of Golden Beach PSA

The Town of Golden Beach called me to make a public safety video. That was five years ago, and they have kept calling back ever since.

The town

Golden Beach is 961 people and 364 houses on a barrier island between the Intracoastal and the Atlantic. It runs its own police department, which for a town that size tells you most of what you need to know about how seriously it takes itself.

The first project

A public-safety PSA with Mayor Glenn Singer. I filmed the Mayor at the Beach Pavilion, then spent time with the Golden Beach Police Department capturing the people, the vehicles and the places behind the message, and flew the town by drone. The film was built out of all of it rather than from a single sit-down interview — a safety message lands differently when you can see the streets it is about.

What followed

That first project led to another, and then another. For the town’s 95th anniversary I built a film around the staff and community, filmed where they actually work. One of the people I interviewed was 103 years old and had lived there most of her life. Her story gave the film a living connection between the Golden Beach of decades ago and the community it had become — the kind of thing you cannot manufacture.

Over the same years I watched the town’s new civic headquarters take shape, filmed around the building as it came together, and documented the inauguration and ribbon cutting: a full crowd, an enormous American flag suspended from a crane, Rabbi Chay Amar speaking.

Then a very different request

The team asked for a single aerial photograph of the entire town, to hang in Town Manager Alexander Diaz’s office. Golden Beach runs about a mile and a quarter — a normal drone photograph was never going to do it. I captured and stitched 45 drone frames into one panoramic image, and the finished eight-foot print now hangs in the new Town Center.

For the aerial project, I captured and stitched together a series of 45 drone photos, blending them with Photoshop and Google Earth to create a stunning panoramic view of Golden Beach from above. The final print, produced in partnership with a local sign shop, is now proudly displayed in the town manager’s office at the brand-new Town Center. It has been a true pleasure contributing to the visual storytelling of such a beautiful community.
